Conor McGregor recently announced that he is fighting Michael Chandler at the UFC’s International Fight Week event on June 29, potentially adding another knockout to his résumé across four divisions.
Conor McGregor, the MMA sensation, is ready for another notch on his belt. His next fight might just be it.
He’s known as “The Notorious”. And he’s got a new announcement. He’s taking on Michael Chandler. The fight’s set for UFC’s International Fight Week event on June 29.
McGregor’s expecting a 185-pound bout. The UFC hasn’t made it official yet. But Chandler’s game. He’s ready to take on McGregor, no matter the weight class.
Sean O’Malley’s got something to say about it. He talked about it on his TimboSugarShow. He’s thrilled at the idea of McGregor scoring knockouts in four divisions.
O’Malley’s got his doubts though. “I feel like he might be fiddling,” he said. He’s not sure if it’s really happening. Chandler’s probably around 185 max. McGregor? Maybe 190.
It’s an interesting matchup at 185. If McGregor knocks out Chandler, he’ll have a knockout at 45, 55, 70, and 185. O’Malley thinks that would be legendary.
McGregor’s got a long list of knockout victims. Jose Aldo, Dustin Poirier, Chad Mendes at featherweight. Eddie Alvarez at lightweight. Donald Cerrone at welterweight. But he’s been out of the game for a while. He’s only had one win since 2016.
There are others who’ve scored knockout victories in more than two UFC divisions. Vitor Belfort and Jared Cannonier, for instance.
If McGregor gets back in the ring on the announced date, it’ll be his first fight in almost three years. His last fight? A loss against Poirier. He broke his leg and couldn’t compete after the first round.
