Stipe Miocic’s Advice for Tom Aspinall Against Jon Jones

Stipe Miocic, after losing to Jon Jones in his final UFC fight, praised Jones’ skills and advised Tom Aspinall to remain calm and strategic if he faces Jones for the heavyweight title unification.

Stipe Miocic faced off against Jon Jones in what turned out to be the last fight of his career. So, he’s got some insight into the UFC heavyweight champ’s skills.

Back at UFC 309 in November, Jones put on a show. He dominated Miocic and sealed the deal with a brutal spinning back kick to the body, keeping his championship belt. Afterward, Miocic announced his retirement. Now, everyone’s wondering if Jones will take on interim champ Tom Aspinall. Before the Super Bowl, Miocic was asked about advice for Aspinall if that fight happens.

“Don’t do what I did,” Miocic told The Schmo. What can you do, right? But seriously, Tommy’s tough—hits hard, moves well, and he’s a big guy. If he stays calm during the fight, I think he’ll be alright.

He’s smart with picking his shots. I believe he’ll be just fine.

Miocic returned to the octagon after almost four years away, aiming to become a three-time champ against Jones. At 42, he lost his title when Francis Ngannou knocked him out at UFC 260 in March 2021. That was after two wins over Daniel Cormier.

With 19 fights in the UFC, Miocic says Jones lived up to all the hype.

“Jones is one of the best ever—maybe even the best,” Miocic said. “He’s just incredibly smart and tricky.”
