Tom Aspinall challenged his friend Tommy Fury to a leg-kicking contest, resulting in Fury enduring significant pain and injury, particularly after a day of leg exercises, but ultimately topping the challenge’s leaderboard.
Tom Aspinall let his pal Tommy Fury know he might want to think twice about adding MMA training to his regimen.
The longtime friends got together for Aspinall’s “dead leg challenge.” This involves the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion trading leg kicks with a lucky contestant. The force escalates until Aspinall’s victim says they’ve had enough.
This time, it was Fury put to the test. Watch video of Aspinall kicking his leg into oblivion below.
Making matters worse for Fury, a British reality TV star and professional boxer, is that he claims the challenge took place following a day of leg exercise. That made Aspinall’s strikes hurt even more.
“He broke my leg,” Fury said after taking a stiff kick from Aspinall. “It’s broke.”
To Fury’s credit, he persevered. Even after Aspinall suggested stopping at 60 percent power, Fury asked him to go up to 65 percent.
Aspinall delivered, much to Fury’s regret. “I’m crippled,” Fury said.
Taking 65 percent from Aspinall did put Fury atop the leaderboard of the dead leg challenge, so… congrats?
Afterwards, Aspinall let Fury hold a kick pad in front of his wounded leg so that he could strike with full force. Suffice to say, Fury wasn’t convinced that the equipment actually provided much protection.
Aspinall—the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings—can afford to take his time training and making YouTube videos. He awaits the result of the Nov. 16 UFC 309 main event between undisputed champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.
As interim champion, Aspinall is entitled to face the winner. But with the possibility that Jones and/or Miocic could retire afterwards, there’s no guarantee as to who or when Aspinall will book his next title fight.
