Tom Aspinall was impressed by Jon Jones‘ dominant performance and victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, noting Jones’ patience and skill, while also commenting on Jones’ reluctance to name his next opponent.
Tom Aspinall was seriously impressed with Jon Jones at UFC 309.
Aspinall, the interim UFC heavyweight champ, was right there octagon-side at Madison Square Garden. He watched as Jones defended his heavyweight title against former two-time champ Stipe Miocic. From the opening bell, Jones was dominant, nearly finishing Miocic in the first round. But somehow, the Cleveland native held on till the horn.
Jones stayed patient and kept up his dominance. Then came the fight-ending moment—a spinning back kick to Miocic’s body. That sealed the deal, keeping Jones as heavyweight champion.
On the latest episode of UFC Connected, Aspinall had a camera focused on him. He watched, reacted to, and even commentated on the fight between Jones and Miocic at times.
Aspinall also had something to say about Jones’ post-fight interview. No specific names were mentioned for his next bout—if there even is one.
“No call out, he still won’t say it, but we’ll see,” Aspinall remarked.
The show also has Michael Page going through his top-five “favorite heavy hitters” in the UFC. Plus, Loma Lookboonmee reflects on her early Muay Thai fights, and Jailton Almeida gives fans a walkthrough of his octagon debut. Catch the full episode of UFC Connected in the video above.
