Despite a unanimous decision loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296, Tony Ferguson remains undeterred, expressing gratitude to his fans and determination to continue fighting, even as UFC CEO Dana White suggests retirement.
Tony Ferguson isn’t throwing in the towel. Despite a recent defeat, he’s pressing forward.
His battle with Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 ended in a unanimous decision loss. Yet, Ferguson remains undeterred. This marks his seventh consecutive loss. But the former champ isn’t backing down.
On Instagram Stories, he reached out to his fans. “Love my fans and supporters. You are all f****** fire,” he wrote. His message was clear and heartfelt: “Keep the faith MF’s. One foot in front of the other b******. Remember what I said crew — Champ.”
Supporters of “El Cucuy” have had a rough time. He was once a dominant force at 155 pounds. But since May 9, 2020, he’s faced a string of tough opponents. Names like Gaethje, Oliveira, Dariush, and Chandler have bested him. Chandler’s front kick knockout was particularly brutal.
In his latest fight, Ferguson showed glimpses of his old self. But Pimblett’s grappling was too much. The defeat was clear.
Ferguson is nearing 40. Questions about his future in the sport are swirling. Retirement rumors? He brushes them off. UFC’s Dana White, however, has his own thoughts. “I would love to see Tony retire,” he said post-fight.
Ferguson’s path is uncertain. But one thing is clear: he’s not ready to quit. Not yet.
