UFC 287 experiences a late change in the heavyweight division as Chase Sherman is now set to face Karl Williams after Chris Barnett withdrew for undisclosed reasons.
UFC 287 has experienced a last-minute shakeup in the heavyweight division, with Chase Sherman now set to face Karl Williams at the pay-per-view event taking place at the Miami-Dade Arena in Miami. UFC Brazil has also revealed the new matchup. The change comes as Chris Barnett withdrew from the bout for undisclosed reasons, leaving space for Williams to step in.
Entering the fight with an impressive track record of five consecutive victories, the 33-year-old Williams recently won a unanimous decision in his octagon debut at UFC Las Vegas against Lukasz Brzeski, less than a month ago. Meanwhile, Sherman, also known as “The Vanilla Gorilla,” will be aiming to get back on the winning track as he makes his 15th appearance in the octagon.
In his most recent outing, Sherman lost a decision to Waldo Cortes-Acosta this past November. Prior to that, he stopped Jared Vanderaa in the third round just four months earlier. The main event for UFC 287 will feature a middleweight championship rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya.
