At UFC 288, a last-second replacement, Diego Lopes, showcased his gutsy performance, pushing his fight with Movsar Evloev to “Fight of the Night.” Evloev emerged victorious with a unanimous decision, giving up a round to the UFC newcomer on two of the three judges’ scorecards at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The undefeated Russian praised his opponent and said he would have a bright future.
Both fighters are now $50,000 richer, as announced by UFC President Dana White during the post-fight press conference. In addition to Lopes and Evloev, two other fighters took home “Performance of the Night” bonuses for $50,000 each.
UFC 288 featured a headlining bantamweight title fight between reigning champ Aljamain Sterling and former champ Henry Cejudo. Sterling retained his belt, winning by split decision with scores of 47-48, 48-47, and 48-47.
