UFC 292: Ian Machado Garry Claims He’s the Superstar Carrying the Card

Ian Machado Garry, former Cage Warriors welterweight champion and undefeated in 12 pro fights, believes he is carrying the UFC 292 event and asserts he is the superstar on the card as he prepares for his upcoming fight against Neil Magny, while anticipating a subsequent top 10 opponent matchup.

Ian Machado Garry, the brash Irishman fighter, is all set to shake up UFC 292 with his fight against Neil Magny. When asked about his anticipation for the upcoming pay-per-view event in Boston, he confidently claimed to be the event’s savior. The fight card is graced with a series of title defenses headlined by Aljamain Sterling against Sean O’Malley, and the two-time strawweight champion Zhang Weili defending her title against Amanda Lemos. Irrespective of the star-studded lineup, Machado Garry is self-assured that his presence is a stroke of luck for UFC.

Machado Garry remarked, “I believe that I am carrying this 292 card on my back, and that if it wasn’t for me, this card would go down the drain.” At the MMA Hour, he noted about the high anticipation that the fans, especially the Irish and Brazilian supporters in Boston, hold for his performance. He’s glad to be stepping into the ring since he was initially scheduled to go against Geoff Neal who was compelled to step back due to undisclosed reasons. Instead, he tackles another ranked opponent, namely Neil Magny, a long-tenured holder of 21 wins at 170 pounds in the UFC record.

With his Irish heritage and recent training stint in Brazil, Machado Garry feels confident about the reception he will receive at TD Garden. “I’m Irish, I’m fighting in Boston. They have a massive Irish contingent. I’ve just been in Brazil the last two and a half months, and the biggest contingent of Brazilians is in Massachusetts and Boston,” he said. These factors, according to Machado Garry, will establish him as the superstar amidst other renowned fighters.

With a brilliant fight record, Machado Garry, a former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, has managed to impress in all his five UFC appearances by defeating all his opponents, three of which were knockout wins. The 25-year-old fighter, with an undefeated strike of 12 pro bouts, envisages a spot in the top 10 if he defeats Magny. He eagerly waits to break into the top 10 and compete against the likes of Stephen Thompson, Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Khamzat Chimaev, Belal Muhammad, and others. He expressed his anticipation for the upcoming fight, “Saturday night, I’m going to beat Neil Magny in beautiful fashion, and then I’m in the top 10. I’m in the top 10 in such a short amount of time that every single possible matchup that you can put me in is absolutely ridiculous.”
