The first UFC pay-per-view card of 2024 will feature title fights between Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis for the middleweight title, and Mayra Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington for the women’s bantamweight championship in Toronto, Canada on January 20.
Well, well, well, guess what? The first UFC pay-per-view card of 2024’s poster is out! And guess where it’s headed? Toronto, Canada, folks, on Jan. 20. Quite the way to kickstart the year, huh?
Now, let’s talk fights. The middleweight title is up for grabs at UFC 297. Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis are set to clash in the main event. A new women’s bantamweight champion will also be crowned. Mayra Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington are going toe-to-toe in the co-headliner. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
Oh, you want a sneak peek at the UFC 297 poster? Check it out below.
Let’s talk about Strickland. This guy is making the first defense of his middleweight title. Remember that shocking upset when he won over Israel Adesanya in September? Despite being a massive underdog, Strickland owned the fight. He bagged a lopsided five-round decision, beating Adesanya and claiming the championship. Talk about an upset!
Then we have du Plessis. The man’s on a roll with eight straight wins, including six in the UFC. His most recent victory was quite the spectacle. He took out ex-UFC champion Robert Whittaker in a fashion that can only be described as impressive. This solidified his position as the No. 1 contender in the division.
And the co-main event? Pennington’s entering the fight after five consecutive wins. This is her second shot at becoming champion. She fell short in her previous bid, losing to Amanda Nunes back in 2018. But now, she’s fighting for a vacant belt. This comes after “The Lioness” announced her retirement in June.
Bueno Silva, on the other hand, has been undefeated since returning to bantamweight. She’s had wins over Lina Lansberg and Stephanie Egger. She even scored a submission over former UFC champion Holly Holm. But, there’s a catch. The win was later overturned due to Bueno Silva testing positive for a banned substance.
The current UFC 297 fight card is still a mystery, with the bout order yet to be determined. But one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be a night to remember!
