Jailton Almeida is set to fight Alexandr Romanov at UFC 302, after his original opponent, Alexander Volkov, was booked to fight Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Saudi Arabia.
Jailton Almeida’s got a new heavyweight showdown on his plate. It’s all set for UFC 302.
He’s squaring off against Alexandr Romanov. The event’s happening on June 1, Newark, N.J. The word came out through Ag. Fight, and multiple insiders confirmed it to MMA Fighting.
Originally, Almeida was supposed to go toe-to-toe with Alexander Volkov. But, plot twist! Dana White, UFC’s big boss, announced Volkov’s got a different dance partner. He’s fighting Sergei Pavlovich, another Russian, at UFC Saudi Arabia. That’s happening on June 22 in Riyadh.
Almeida’s looking for redemption. He had a rough one at UFC 299, a knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes. That was his first octagon setback. Before that? He was a wrecking ball. He won six straight, and only one opponent made it to the scorecards.
Romanov’s coming off a win, a comeback victory against Blagoy Ivanov. That win helped him break a two-fight losing streak. The guy had a five-fight winning streak before that. And get this, none of his 16 wins needed judges.
Who’s headlining UFC 302? Still a mystery. But we know the main card will be on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
