UFC 309 Bonuses: Oliveira & Chandler Win Fight of the Night

Charles Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler at UFC 309 in New York, earning a decision victory after surviving a late comeback, and both fighters received the Fight of the Night award, while Jon Jones, Oban Elliott, and Ramiz Brahimaj also won Performance of the Night bonuses.

Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler are guaranteed fireworks. Their clashes never disappoint.

Once again, the lightweights met in the octagon at UFC 309 on Saturday in New York. This time, it was Oliveira who emerged victorious. But not without a fight. Chandler pushed him to the limit.

Dominating most of the first four rounds, Oliveira had control. But then came Chandler’s daring comeback in the final frame. It was intense! Ultimately, Oliveira secured a decision victory.

This marks Oliveira’s second win over Chandler. Remember UFC 262 in March 2021? Yeah, that was their first encounter.

UFC CEO Dana White later announced that both fighters received the evening’s Fight of the Night award. An extra $50,000 each! Sweet deal, right?

For Chandler, it’s his third Fight of the Night bonus. And for Oliveira? His fifth bonus in six UFC fights. Impressive.

Oliveira entered UFC 309 holding the record for most post-fight bonuses in UFC history. He extended that record to 20! The Brazilian star has now won Fight of the Night four times.

Bonus money also went to a trio of Performance of the Night winners: Jon Jones, Oban Elliott, and Ramiz Brahimaj.

Jones made easy work of Stipe Miocic as he defended his heavyweight title for the first time. After nearly finishing Miocic with ground-and-pound in the first round, Jones outclassed Miocic in standup. Later, he finished him with a body kick followed by strikes in Round 3.

Like Oliveira, Jones is no stranger to bonuses. He’s now pocketed the 10th of his storied UFC career.

Elliott and Brahimaj both bagged bonuses for the first time. Elliott floored Bassil Hafez with an incredible knockout in the final round. Meanwhile, Brahimaj needed less than a round to run through Mickey Gall.

And that’s a wrap! Another action-packed night in the UFC books.
