Daniel Cormier will commentate the UFC 309 main event featuring his former rivals Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic competing for the heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden, alongside a co-main event rematch between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler.
Daniel Cormier is gearing up to call the UFC 309 main event. Two of his fiercest rivals are set to clash with the heavyweight title at stake.
Jon Jones makes his return to face Stipe Miocic in a highly anticipated showdown. This bout, featuring two all-time greats, will headline the event at Madison Square Garden in New York. Originally slated for November 2023, the fight was delayed for a year due to Jones suffering a torn pectoral muscle.
Cormier, no stranger to calling fights involving former opponents, finds this main event particularly intriguing. Both Jones and Miocic posed formidable challenges during his Hall of Fame career. He faced them five times combined, giving him unique insight into their fighting styles.
Joining Cormier on the broadcast are Jon Anik and comedian/podcaster Joe Rogan. Together, they form the three-man booth calling UFC 309.
Megan Olivi will serve as the in-arena reporter for the night. Din Thomas will provide analysis throughout the event.
UFC officials confirmed this broadcast team lineup to MMA Fighting on Tuesday. MMA Junkie initially broke the news.
The card also features a thrilling five-round co-main event: Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler in a rematch. In their last encounter, Oliveira survived an early scare before finishing Chandler in round two to claim the vacant lightweight title.
Now, over three years later, they meet again. The winner likely earns a fast track back into title contention in the lightweight division.
The UFC 309 pay-per-view main card kicks off at 10 p.m. ET. Prelims begin at 6 p.m. ET, with a total of 13 fights scheduled from New York.
