UFC Denver Medical Suspensions: Cody Brundage Indefinitely Suspended

The Colorado Combative Sports Commission issued several medical suspensions following the UFC Denver card, with Cody Brundage and Ange Loosa facing indefinite suspensions pending medical clearance, while other fighters received varying suspension lengths.

The medical suspensions from the recent UFC Denver card have been released. A couple of fighters face indefinite layoffs until cleared by a physician.

The Colorado Combative Sports Commission handed down the suspensions. The full list was sent to MMA Fighting on Thursday.

Perhaps the most notable name on that list is veteran middleweight Cody Brundage. He had a short but rough night in what was essentially a hometown fight for him.

A furious start to his fight against Abdul Razak Alhassan ended abruptly. Referee Dan Miragliotta paused the contest with Brundage absorbing several illegal blows to the back of his head.

Miragliotta had issued a warning to Alhassan just seconds earlier. Alhassan was defending a takedown from Brundage while throwing a barrage of punches and elbows.

Once the fight was paused, Brundage had time to recover. However, he struggled to get back on his feet after absorbing the punishment to the back of his head.

On the advice of the cageside physician, Brundage was not allowed to continue. Miragliotta ultimately ruled the fight as a no contest just 38 seconds into the opening round.

Brundage has now been suspended indefinitely by the commission. He needs clearance through a CT scan and a letter from his doctor before returning to action in the UFC.

Welterweight fighter Ange Loosa also received an indefinite suspension due to a laceration on his toe. He’ll need doctor’s clearance before being allowed to compete again.

Those were the only indefinite suspensions handed down from UFC Denver card.
