Rose Namajunas is set to fight Amanda Ribas in a 125-pound bout that will serve as the main event of a UFC card on March 23, following a disappointing debut in the division last September.
Rose Namajunas ain’t going nowhere. She’s sticking to flyweight, folks.
Her debut in the division last September? Yeah, it wasn’t the best. But she’s not letting that get her down. Namajunas, with an 11-6 record, is gearing up to face Amanda Ribas (12-4). It’s a 125-pound bout that’s the main event of a UFC card on March 23.
Where’s it happening? Well, the word on the street is that it’s going down at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Who confirmed this? MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz and Mike Heck, that’s who. They confirmed the matchup, following an initial report by MMA Hoje.
Namajunas, she’s recently moved to 125 pounds. That’s after an eight-year stint in the UFC. During that time, she won the 115-pound belt twice. Not too shabby, huh?
But, she didn’t fare too well against top contender Manon Fiorot at UFC Paris. Lost a unanimous decision to the top flyweight contender. That’s two straight losses for “Thug Rose”. She also lost the strawweight title to Carla Esparza in a UFC 274 bout that’s best forgotten.
And Ribas? She’s no newbie to switching weight classes. The Brazilian standout most recently competed at 115 pounds last November. She defeated Luana Pinheiro via third-round TKO. That marked a return to strawweight for Ribas. She’s also got notable wins at flyweight over Viviane Araujo and Paige VanZant.
So, there you have it. A bit of MMA news for ya.
