UFC Nashville Headliner Update: Rob Font Faces Cory Sandhagen

Cory Sandhagen will now face Rob Font in the main event at UFC Nashville, following Umar Nurmagomedov‘s withdrawal due to injury.

Cory Sandhagen, despite previous uncertainties, is confirmed to compete in UFC Nashville. His participation is backed by multiple individuals who are privy to the program’s plans. His rival in the main event of the Fight Night card scheduled for Aug. 5 will be Rob Font. The competitors will be contesting at a catchweight of 140 pounds. Interestingly, this recent change of events was first announced by the UFC broadcast partner, ESPN.

The original competitor, Umar Nurmagomedov, was compelled to step back due to a shoulder injury. This would have marked his first promotional headliner. The fighter from Massachusetts was initially scheduled to compete against Song Yadong at UFC 292 in Boston prior to this alteration. It was later revealed that Yadong was unable to participate in the set match on Aug. 19 due to undisclosed reasons.

In his previous match, Rob Font was spectacularly able to recover from a two-match losing streak. He accomplished this by delivering an impressive knockout to Adrian Yanez during April’s UFC 287 event. On the other hand, Cory Sandhagen is riding on the wave of consecutive wins over Yadong and Marlon Vera. At 31 years of age, Sandhagen is preparing for his 13th octagon appearance with the aim to edge closer to a title shot in the constantly bustling 135-pound division. His performance in the upcoming match could be a significant step towards that goal.
