Jennifer Maia has been released from the UFC roster after her recent loss, making her a free agent.
Jennifer Maia, a one-time flyweight title contender, has reportedly been released from the UFC roster. This news comes from multiple sources familiar with the situation. Maia’s contract with the promotion ended after her recent fight against Viviane Araujo at UFC Vegas 81, where she lost via decision. As a result, the promotion chose not to renew the contract of the Brazilian athlete, making her a free agent.
Maia initially joined the UFC in 2018 after successfully defending her Invicta FC title on two occasions. She went on to participate in 12 fights inside the octagon, emerging victorious in six of them. Notably, she achieved impressive wins against fighters like Roxanne Modafferi and Jessica Eye during her tenure.
In 2020, Maia earned an opportunity to compete for the UFC belt after submitting Joanne Wood within the first round. However, she was unable to secure the title as she lost a decision to the reigning champion, Valentina Shevchenko, in the co-main event of UFC 255 held in Las Vegas.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead for Jennifer Maia as she embarks on the next chapter of her fighting career as a free agent.
