UFC St. Louis Medical Suspensions: Two Fighters Face Indefinite Layoffs Until Cleared

Nine fighters received medical suspensions following a record-breaking weekend at UFC St. Louis, including Mateusz Rebecki and Terrance McKinney who face indefinite layoffs until cleared by a physician.

UFC St. Louis was a record-breaking weekend. Nine fighters, however, are now facing medical suspensions. Two of these athletes are on indefinite leave until a doctor gives them the green light.

The Missouri Office of Athletics confirmed this news to MMA Fighting. It was Monday when they spilled the beans.

Mateusz Rebecki started off strong. But, he faded late against Diego Ferreira. Now, he’s looking at a mandatory 90-day suspension. He was battered and finished with only nine seconds to spare. On top of the 90-day suspension, Rebecki’s got an indefinite suspension hanging over his head. He needs a neurologist’s clearance to get back in the ring.

After his Saturday night battle with Ferreira, Rebecki shared a viral photo. It showed the aftermath of the fight – cuts, blood, and bruises all over his face. It was gruesome, to say the least.

Terrance McKinney’s in the same boat. He also got a suspension after a brutal first-round knockout from Esteban Ribovics. It started fast, but ended just as quickly. Ribovics’ head kick sent McKinney crashing to the ground.

McKinney, like Rebecki, has a mandatory 90-day suspension. He can’t compete again until a doctor clears him.

McKinney has always lived by the “go big or go home” mantra in his UFC career. His latest fight sent him home with a medical suspension. It’s his second knockout loss in his last five fights.

Medical suspensions are public knowledge. But, the Missouri Office of Athletics doesn’t disclose salaries without the fighter’s consent.
