The UFC plans to increase the number of events held outside the APEX in 2025, aiming for a balance between road shows and events at the APEX, with more international trips also being considered as part of their long-term strategy.
The UFC’s planning to hit the road more frequently come 2025. For years now, fans have been buzzing about the UFC APEX. Built in 2019, it became a pivotal venue during the COVID-19 pandemic, hosting events when everything else seemed to shut down. Even after lockdowns lifted, the APEX remained a staple, much to some fans’ chagrin. But change might be on the horizon.
Just last Saturday, UFC Edmonton shattered records as the highest-grossing Fight Night event ever in North America. This success follows other impressive showings in cities like Denver and Louisville earlier this year. After the event, UFC Vice President David Shaw hinted at more changes for 2025, suggesting an uptick in road events.
“There will be [more events on the road],” Shaw confirmed. “Expect more outside of the APEX compared to this year as we move into 2025.” Notably, this weekend marks the UFC’s 100th event at the APEX—17 visits this year alone, mirroring last year’s tally but a slight dip from 21 in 2022.
However, Shaw clarified that while they aim to reduce reliance on the APEX, a return to pre-COVID norms isn’t in the cards. “Predicting two or three years ahead is tough,” he noted. “Vegas has its perks—fighters are here, operations are smoother, and it’s budget-friendly. The grind of being constantly on the road? It’s no walk in the park.”
“So having ‘home games’ at the APEX makes sense,” Shaw added. “Will we ever ditch it entirely? I doubt it. But we’ll strike a balance.” Interestingly, more road shows aren’t just about American fans getting their fix. With their media rights deal expiring next year, Shaw revealed plans for more international ventures too.
“More plans? Absolutely,” Shaw stated. “We’re heading back to the U.K. next year… As we wrap up our current U.S. media deal and look ahead to 2026 and beyond, expect more European trips.” Exciting times ahead for MMA enthusiasts worldwide!
