Jared Gooden announced his retirement from professional fighting at age 31 after a 10-year career, including two UFC stints, citing a loss of passion and a desire to focus on raising his daughter and pursuing other projects.
Jared Gooden has hung up his gloves. After a decade in the fight game, he’s stepping away from the cage. The 34-fight veteran took to social media on Monday to share the news. Quite a journey it’s been.
At 31, Gooden decided it was time after a recent loss to Mahamed Aly at Shogun Fights in Hanover, Maryland. A tough decision, no doubt. You can watch his heartfelt announcement below.
“I want to take this time to let everybody know that my time has come,” he said. “I’m walking away from the sport.” Gratitude overflowed as he thanked those who supported him. Yet, he admitted something important: the passion just isn’t there anymore.
His focus now? Family and new ventures. Raising his daughter is top of the list. “I’m going to hang up my gloves for now,” Gooden added, teasing future plans with a hint of mystery.
Gooden’s UFC journey had its ups and downs. Known as “Nite Train,” he went 2-5 in the promotion. His debut in 2020 against Alan Jouban ended in defeat. However, he did snag a memorable first-round knockout against Niklas Stoltze.
After leaving the UFC in 2021, he clawed his way back by 2023. But luck wasn’t on his side; just one win in three fights—a second-round submission of Wellington Turman—before heading back to regional circuits.
He finishes with a pro record of 23-11. Not too shabby, considering the rollercoaster ride that is MMA. Here’s to whatever comes next for Jared Gooden!
