The third week of Dana White’s Contender Series will proceed with just four fights, after Felipe Dos Santos and Luciano Pereira’s bout was cancelled due to Pereira’s medical issues.
The third week of Dana White’s Contender Series is set to proceed with just four fights following the cancellation of a match ahead of Monday’s weigh-ins. A flyweight fight involving Felipe Dos Santos and Luciano Pereira was called off due to Pereira’s medical concerns. Despite Pereira’s inability to weigh in because of these issues, Dos Santos had already made weight at 124.5 pounds before he was informed that the match was cancelled. The alteration means that Tuesday’s card for the contest will proceed with one less fight.
In the pandemic-adjusted contest, the middleweights are ready to headline the main event in the third week of The Contender Series. The spotlight will be on Eli Aronov and Zachary Reese who are scheduled to face each other. Interestingly, both contenders weighed in at an identical 185.5 pounds, locking in their eligibility for the fight.
So far, the Contender Series has seen all ten winners receiving contracts to compete in UFC. As such, it remains to be seen how the recent reductions to four fights on the latest card will impact the competition. The third week’s series is slated to start at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday and will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
For those interested in the full weigh-in results, the lineup included the middleweight main event between Eli Aronov (185.5) and Zachary Reese (185.5), a welterweight bout featuring Kaik Brito (169) versus Oban Elliott (170.5), a women’s strawweight match between Isis Verbeek (114.5) and Josefine Knutsson (116), and a featherweight competition featuring Luis Pajuelo (145.5) against Robbie Ring (145.5).
