Rising welterweight contenders Randy Brown and Vicente Luque are being booked once again to fight each other. MMA Junkie’s Nolan King reports that the UFC is close to finalizing the fight. Brown and Luque were supposed to fight on an April 11th event, but the event was canceled.

Luque is coming off a TKO win over Niko Price at UFC 249 on May 9th. He has been working towards climbing the welterweight rankings. Luque is currently ranked 13th in the division. His last loss was against sixth-ranked welterweight Stephen Thompson by unanimous decision at UFC 244 on November 2nd. A win over Brown can help Luque get another fight against someone ranked ahead of him.

Brown will be going into the fight with momentum. He is on a two-fight win streak and has finished both opponents. His last win was against Warlley Alves by submission via triangle choke at UFC Fight Night 164 on November 16, 2019. Brown will have an opportunity to get into the welterweight rankings with a win over Luque.
Both fighters have agreed that the fight is in the works on social media. The UFC has yet to make an announcement. The August 1 card main event will be a matchup between former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm vs Irene Aldana.
